Red Sea, Egypt 2024

In December 2024, nine members of Newmarket Divers enjoyed a weeks diving in the Egyptian Red Sea abound Ghazala Explorer. The trip took in three of the most famous reefs of the Red Sea, The Brothers, Elphinstone and Daedalus.

Trip highlights were diving with Thresher Sharks at Little Brother Island, diving the wreck of Numidia on Big Brother Island, where a number of members did depth progressions. Having close encounters with Oceanic White Tip Sharks and Manta Rays at Daedalus Reef, will last long in the memory for those lucky enough to see both. And for Kieran, Terry and Andrew, diving the arch on the South Tip of Elphinstone, at a depth of over 50m looked spectacular.

Towards the end of the trip the weather changed and the wind and waves picked up. We were very impressed with how the crew controlled the boat in some very big seas and still managed to get us onto some good dive sites including the Salem Express wreck for those of us not suffering too badly from the effects of sea sickness.

Congratulations to Kate and Tony for doing their 40m depth progression and to Nev who did his 30m and 35m depth progressions.

Newmarket divers can definitely recommend The Ghazala Explorer and The Ocean Tribe fleet. They provided a great week of diving with fantastic food and a very safe trip in difficult conditions.
